Georgetown garden

Tucked beside Proper Topper- Georgetown, our secret garden just begs for use on beautiful mornings; and, funny thing, most of the toddlers we know also beg for a place to find other toddlers. Play Time will again feature music, refreshments (thirst-quenching, all-natural fizzy lizzy!), friends and good cheer- we hope you'll join us!

Woodrow Wilson House
20th "Perennial" Garden Party

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008
Woodrow Wilson House, 2340 S St., NW
6 to 8:30 pm

Proper Topper is pleased to support the Woodrow Wilson House Foundation at the 20th Annual Garden Party, held in President Wilson's beautiful early-20th-century classic mansion on S Street to benefit the only presidential museum in Washington, D.C.  Proper Topper will be on hand during the event with a collection of spectacular millinery for men and women from the nation's top designers and contributing a percentage of sales to the WWH Endowment. A much anticipated Rite of Spring, the Garden Party holds a fierce competition and fabulous

prizes for the best Spring Hats in categories from traditional to creative. The Garden Party is presented by the Perennial Garden Club of Washington.

In ongoing support of Woodrow Wilson House, Proper Topper will contribute a portion of all purchases made by WWH patrons through May 31st. Supporters may mention WWH at the time of purchase in either shop, or enter “WWH Trust” in ordering directions online.

Help Restore the Georgetown Library!

"Harold + the Purple Library" Tee
Show your support for our library's recovery! As in the children's classic, Harold draws the library to life with his purple crayon, and the quote on the shirt reads: "luckily, he kept his wits and his purple crayon."
All proceeds from the tees will go to fund re-stocking the Georgetown Public Library, severely damaged by fire on April 30th, 2007. Order online or visit the shops to purchase men's ($20), women's ($24) and kids' ($14).

The loss of the Georgetown Public Library to fire in April, 2007 led us to think about the fragile state of our neighborhood public libraries. This project is the product of a group of individuals who have a hopeful vision for building better, stronger libraries throughout the city. The artists contributed their work, Gypsy Eyes Records and The Federal Reserve Collective contributed use of the works, and Proper Topper contributed production costs. All proceeds from sales of this CD go directly to the DCPL Foundation. CDs are available for $10 at either Proper Topper location or on our website.

Chapeaux and Champagne

Saturday and Sunday, April 26th & 27th
Proper Topper – Georgetown
Noon to 6

In conjunction with Georgetown's French Market weekend, we toasted glorious spring again with champagne and spectacular spring millinery! Karyn Gringas, creator and designer of Lilliput Hats, joined us from her Toronto studio to show her amazing creations and to assist our discerning customers in finding the perfect hat. Also on hand were expanded trunk show collections from favorite designers Christine A. Moore, Brenda Lynn, and Mr. Green (a men's couture collection).

Spring Celebration

Saturday, April 19

On a beautiful, sun-drenched April morning, Friends of Rose Park and Proper Topper hosted the 4th Annual Rose Park Spring Celebration. The fun included bonnet trimming (the one-of-a-kind creations were spectacular!), pony rides & baby farm animals, moon bouncing, face painting, and live rock & roll music for all ages from These United States, Brandon Butler, Rose, Kitty Hawk, and Vandaveer
.

The Spring Celebration was free to all, but many generous donations were made to Friends of Rose Park. Thank you to all who helped us celebrate!

Friends of Rose Park is a non-profit organization that, along with the District of Columbia and the National Park Service, funds maintenance and improvement of our neighborhood treasure, Rose Park.

Knitter's Delight!

We converted our secret garden into a farmer's market during December, presenting unique local treats and beautiful fresh touches for the holidays: hand spun organic yarns from Solitude, a small farm in Western Loudon County (knitters, you'll be in heaven!); holiday wreaths and plants; honey and other bee products; one-of-a-kind handmade gifts, and lots more, all in our Georgetown garden. Stay tuned for a reprise this spring!

A Night of Great Music for a Good Cause!

Proper Topper joined forces with Gypsy Eyes Records and the Federal Reserve Collective for the debut of the Benefit for the DC Public Library CD.

Proceeds from the evening went to the DC Public Library Foundation to fund libraries serving across Washington, D.C.
